View Full Version : What size swaybars for an EK1 civic sedan?

I'm looking at reducing the body roll on my 96 EK1 Civic sedan. Currently have lowered springs and Koni adjustable shocks.
The car has a factory front swaybar (22mm I think) and no rear bar.
I want to fit a rear bar, and upgrade the front. I'm planning on taking the car to the track eventualy, but it will remain a daily driver, so I don't want too harsh a ride (not that it isn't already harsh).
What size bars should I be looking at i.e. 22mm rear (with tie bar and subframe brace), and 27mm front (+ tie bar)?
Thanks,
Neil.

Hello Neil,
I would recommend fitting the 27mm front sway bar, part # BHF52 replacement type to suit vehicles with an OEM front sway bar, and the 22mm adjustable rear sway bar, part # BHR76XZ, kit type, to suit vehicles without OEM rear sway bar fitted. You will then also need the #KSB709 rear tye-bar to provide extra strength to the rear end.
I would then also recommend fitting both front and rear strut tower braces, part # KSB570 front & # KSB525Q for the rear to increase chassis regidity.

Thanks Wayne.
I have heard of issues with the 22mm rear bar putting extra stress on the sub-frame and possibly ripping it apart on the Civics, and that a sub-frame brace was necessary when fitting a 22mm bar or bigger.
Would I need a sub-frame brace as well, or would the tie bar alone suffice?
Cheers,
Neil.

Hello Neil,
Yes it is true that fitting a larger rear sway bar will put extra load on the chassis, that is why our # BHR76 series of sway bars come supplied with the extra heavy duty chassis mounts, also the reason why I have recommended fitting the lower tie bar. Any additional bracing is always recommended as it all works to strengthen the chassis.
If you are concerned about the 22mm sway bar placing too much stress on your chasssis and possibly doing damage, I would recommend that you only fit the 20mm adjustable sway bar, # BHR76Z.
Cheers
