Hi guys....

I have just got hold of a set of W/L rear adjustable shocks for my Astra. Can you please tell me how they adjust?

Is there any procedure I need to follow in regards to pumping them a few times before fitting.??

Also, is there anything I need to do to the front struts before fitting..???

Many thanks. I am looking forward to driving the car when all done.

Wayne.

Hello Wayne,

The adjustment procedure for the rear shocks is as follows:

1. Fully compress the shock absorber, at the same time turning the dust cap or piston rod slowly to the left (anti-clockwise), until it is felt that the cams of the adjusting nut engage in the recesses of the foot valve assembly.
2. Keeping the shock absorber compressed make 1 full turn (360°) to the right (clockwise). The total range is about 5 half turns.
3. Extend the shock absorber vertically for at least 1 cm without turning in order to disengage the adjusting mechanism. The dust cap or piston rod may now be turned freely. I usually find an adjustment between 1/4 & 1/2 of the adjustment range (from full soft) to be sufficient.

WARNING: Adjust both left and right dampers identically. Failure to do so may lead to unstable handling and uneven tyre tread wear.

It is recommended to work the shock absorber through is available motion range several times, in order to remove any air from the hydraulics that may have occured during transit.

As for the fronts, it is also recommended to work the shock through its motion range prior to installation. Adjustment can then be carried out once the struts are fitted.

I hope this helps you.

Cheers
Wayne
