I wonder if you could suggest what tracking setting I should be running on the above car. I don't know if you know the car, but it's a 5 door hatch, FWD with a 2.0 16v engine. It was called the Opel Vectra A in Europe.

Current modifications are Koni adjustable dampers and matched springs (lowered about 35mm all round). Front and rear braces, 205/55/15 F1 tyres, on stock et49 wheels. It's running stock front and rear ARBs, I believe there 20mm front and 22mm rear. I may in the near future replace all bushes to polly ones.

The car handles very well, balance on fast sweeping corners under power gives very mild oversteer. Technical corners, balance is switchable between over and understeer modes. Currently the car has not been tracked since lowered, and there is excess tow-out.

Reading the Haynes manual (common support manual in UK), it suggests there should be some toe-in. I use to own another of these cars that handled very well, the tracking on that car towed -out that is in conflict to what this says.

The car will be used for weekend driving, with the priority on handling; I?m looking for something that gives direct pointy steering. I'm happy to sacrifice a small amount of tyre wear for this.

Many Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason,
Toe-in is often specified by car manufacturers as this gives stability. However, for racing neutral or toe-out will help with turn-in and steering response, at a slight cost of reduced stability.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks Wojtek, i'll try 1 degree of toe out on front.

PS This car handles / drives much better then my Astra Mk4 I was modding.

Hi Jason,
I'm not sure on the exact conversion, but I think 1 degree of tou-out might be a bit too much. I'd suggest 0 (neutral) or slight toe-out, perhaps 0.5mm per side.

Wojtek.
