Hi Guys - I guess I'm really raising this one from the dead!

Currently I have a set of G4s installed on an MY03 WRX sedan, using stock top hats on the rear and Max-C (motorsport version) tops in front.

I've noticed that with the rear left unit (closest to the muffler), that I hear two distinct noises that I don't hear from the other three units:

1) When going over bumps, potholes, or a sharp incline like a driveway, there is a clunking sound, especially at lower speeds.

2) Sometimes weight transfers - like going around a roundabout - result in a quieter yet distinct sound, somethling like metal rubbing on metal.

I've had confirmation from two separate workshops that the coilovers are installed just fine, and from what we all can tell there aren't any safety or performance issues here.

At the same time, I'd like to understand what's causing this sound, be positive that there actually aren't any potential effects on safety or performance, and stop these noises from occuring (or at least significantly quieten them down).

I've already tried the foam-over-the-adjusting-rod trick, and while it did muffle things a bit these sounds are still easily audible in the cabin.

In reading Wayne's post above, some coil insulators were suggested as a solution - assuming that the helper spring is the culprit. I'm just wondering if that's still a good first suggested step here, or if there's anything else that's come up in the past few years that might be worthwhile trying instead? Or if there's something to specifically look at on the unit itself?

Again these noises only come from the left rear - I can't even hear the other ones! So three outta four ain't bad ;)

And the fact that it's specifically the left rear that's making the noise... and again going with the helper spring theory... perhaps because that's the corner that's furthest away from where my 100 kilos is sitting in the car?

Anyways thanks for reading this guys and for putting some thought into it, if there's more information that I can provide at this point please let me know.

Cheers - Nik
