Hi guys,
I'm fine tuning the handling in my ute,I've built it to go around corners fast. But I seem to be getting over steer under extreme cornering.
It sit s on 17x235x45 firehawks ,Koni gas adjustables up front,Koni oil adjustable on the rear ,2 inch lowered spindles on front with King springs.Rears have 2 inch lowering blocks also reset springs(lower)
Nolathaned bushes on every rubber component underneath. Have the camber
set to 1.5 negative .
After reading your forum could it be posibily that I need to change my front sway bar (25 mm) thick to a bigger dia. maybe 27mm? or maybe something else.
Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,
Reducing oversteer can be achieved in a numbers of ways, including fitting a bigger front sway bar. However, it is difficult for me to say if that is the correct approach in your case, without personally driving your car, as we do not specialise in this class of vehicles. Having said that, the same theory still applies. If you are braking rear traction during heavy cornering, and this happens (more) past corner apex, then I suggest that you also look at rear suspension bump travel. You may find that you have lowered your car too much causing the outside rear suspension to bottom out, resulting in oversteer. Ultimately though, these types of vehicles are doomed from the start due to their unfavourable weight distribution, and it only takes a small bump in the road or a little too much throttle for the rear end to come out.
Have a look at either upgrading your front sway bar and/or adjusting your shocks, and/or increasing rear bump travel, and/or reducing rear spring rate and adding a (small) rear sway bar.
Regards,
Wojtek.

Hi Wojtek,
Thanks for your reply
I think I will start with the bigger sway bar first thats if they make one, if you have any idea who can supply one could you let us know,I will try WhiteLine.
I can play around with shock adjustments and ride height later if needed.
Thanks again Mark.
PS. any one else that is/has bothered to set up this type of vehicle like this feel free
to comment.

Hi Mark,
We do a 27mm front sway bar to suit Mitsubishi Triton 93-96 MJ AWD models, part number BMF27.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this will fit your car.

Wojtek.

Hi Wojtek,
I will have to check out chassis # etc to see if that BMF 27 is going to fit.
Cheers Mark.

No problem Mark.
Let us know if you need more info, or perhaps you can send us some digital pictures of your car (suspension) to see if we can identify.

Hi Mark,
I've already seen your pictures. Great work!
My reply....
"I've checked the dimensions of BMF27 versus customer's diagram.
Although I can't guarantee this without having the car, and the fact that there are some variations between BMF27 and customer's drawing, the main dimensions are very similar and it looks like BMF27 should fit his car."
It looks like BMF27 should fit, but I am sorry I can't give you a guarantee on this.
Talk to your local Whiteline distributor;
http://www.whiteline.com.au/dealers_os.htm#New Zealand
and see what they can do for you.
Obviously give them the full history.
Cheers,
Wojtek.
