Greetings Whiteline Tech. I am investigating adapting coilovers onto the front of my car. I have a 1987 Alfa Romeo 75. The front suspension is double control arm, with torsion bar springing on the lower control arm (not Macpherson strut). Coilover springs of around 70-100kg/cm will be used in addition to the factory torsion bar. I am wondering if Whiteline would have coilovers to suit the application. The stock shock absorber measures 435mm open and 375mm compressed and has an eye on the bottom and a stud at the top. The car has also been lowered about 30mm.

Here is a picture of a proprietary coilover setup on a car just like mine. As you can see the coil spring is very short and is mounted below the upper control arm. This setup is what I am hoping to replicate. The upper control arm has a hole in it 85mm diameter that the coilover will need to pass through and ideally with some clearance for castor adjustment.

Is this something Whiteline can help with or is it too specialised? Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Scott

Hi Scott,

We currently don't do coil overs at the present time as we have shifted our focus into other areas. Due to the low cost coil overs presently on the market it has made it increasingly difficult to compete aginst these but we may look at re-doing them at a later stage. We don't tend to specialise too much in customising coil overs as the manpower required to produce these outweighs the benefits of having this stock line..

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks for the reply Dave. I'm sorry to hear that. I knew it was a long shot but I like supporting Australian businesses so I gave it a shot (also the other setup is $2200 and you have to import from the Netherlands:( ) Do you have any leads on who I can see in Melbourne to get the low down??

Thanks again,
Scott

Hi Scott,

The only shop i know of in the Melbourne area that would do something like this would probably be Centreline suspension, which i have seen do some great work. It may pay to contact one of the Alfa car clubs or hop onto one of there forums as someone would have had experience on coil over setup on one of these, and might be able to point you in the right direction to a local supplier.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks again Dave. I'll give Centreline a go and see what they can do. I'm quite active on the Alfa forums, coilovers are really unusual for this chassis, and the people who do have them buy the kit in the picture. I would too, but it's $2300 plus shipping from the Netherlands:eek:

Thanks,
Scott
