hi, back from having the car alignment done, wonder if someone could cast a eye over the results? the car is a 1988 celica gt-four st 165

front:

camberL: -0*39' R -0*26' No adj on uk spec as standard
caster L:' 1*51' R 1*22' Kca376 fitted
Toe L: 0*02' R 0*01'

Rear:

Camber L:0*28 R 0*00'
Toe L: 0*16' R 0*12
Total toe: 0*27

these are what they set it too.

í have one set of camber bolts to fit.
looks to me like the rears need these desperatley, as there is positive camber at the back, feels like the rear will let go before the front too!
need to rebook to have bolts fitted, anything that needs further attention?
the machine they used shows all these are in spec, except the front caster :-)

any help much appreciated

steve

Hello,

The alignment settings that you set the vehicle to will depend on the intended usage of the vehicle.
If you intend to drive the vehicle quite hard through corners, but still use it as an every day driver and conserve tyre wear to a point, then I would set the alignment to the 'Touring' settings, If you aren't too concerned about tyre wear and wish to do a fair bit of track work than I would go for the 'SPORT' settings.
Going by the alignment settings that you have posted I would be getting a second set of camber pins for the front aswell. I would be putting both the front and rear cambers around -1degree as a minimum. I would also recomend both the front and rear Toe be set to 0.00, this will aid with the initial turn in behavior of your vehicle, making it more responsive.

hi wayne, thnks for looking over the spec..
the car is for fast road use, track days etc next year i think.

would the slight differences shown above make a lot of difference ie 0*16' toe as opposed to the 0*0' that you state?
maybe worth getting these other bolts then :-)

thanks

Hello,

To answer your question, Yes it will make a difference, the toe in will make the steering a little less reponsive on initiall turn in to corners, it is some thing you may not notice, but on the other hand you may notice the difference, it depends on how sensitive you are.

thanks wayne..
i haven't got the camber set-up corectly yet but on some fast roads around my village it feels like the rear end will step out first, not what i want!

i have one of your adj sway bars on order but am worried this will add to the rear end issues?

TIA

Hello,

Insufficient rear camber will not help your cause too much.
You may feel better with a little bit of Toe in on the rear, may be 0.5mm /side of Toe in, this will make the rear a little more settled.
Your other option is to play with the sway bar adjustments.
If you have an adjustable front bar I would recomend tightening it up on adjustment. If you don't have an adjustable front bar I would decrease the rear bar a little bit.

See how that goes!

hi wayne thanks for the reply..
i always thought that toe in on the rear would cause a unsteady rear end ( Oo err)
i will get the garage to adjust to this spec 0.5, no nasty tyre wearing issues with this spec?
im going to get the camber set to -1.0 all round.

i have none of the whiteline bars fitted as yet..
im told the adj bar will be with me early june.
as for the front i don't think you make an adj front bar?

will the bars alter geometry i.e should fit them before getting it all set up?

thanks again m8

Hello,

No the sway bars will not alter the wheel alignment, so it doesn't matter if you get the alignment done before or after.
Toe in always makes the vehicle more steady and less nervous, to a point, if you have too much toe in it will make things more nervous, Toe out on the other hand is the one that make the vehicle more nervous and unsteady.

Hello,

There are some articles on the Whiteline web site in the 'tech talk & FAQ' section which may be of interest to you, apart from that I do not know where else you would be best to look. The Whiteline web address is www.whiteline.com.au.
